About

Sociologist. First-Gen. Nerd.

I am an associate professor of sociology at Western Washington University and an education, research, and program development consultant. My primary research centers on social mobility, inequality, and the role that organizations play in shaping individuals’ pathways and experiences. Check out the different section on this webpage to learn about how I have taken up these elements my different research projects. I was a first-generation student from a working class background that started my academic trajectory as a non-traditional adult learner in community college. I received my AA from Umpqua Community College in 2010, my BA from Reed College in 2013, and my MA and PhD from the University of Chicago in 2015 and 2019 respectively. I was selected as a Jack Kent Cooke Undergraduate Transfer Scholar in 2010 and as a Graduate Scholar in 2013. When I am not teaching or doing research, I can usually be found adventuring across the magical Pacific Northwest, making miniature dioramas, playing D&D, or hanging out with my cat Bill Seacaster.
