My goal in all of my courses is to produce a learning community that engages in rigorous exploration of the social world by drawing on sociological works that are rooted in our discipline’s empirical and theoretical traditions. I prioritize critical thinking, research and writing skills, data literacy, and applied sociology in my course design and leverage a multi-dimensional assessment strategy that is both inclusive and rigorous. I aim to foster an equitable and engaging learning community that provides all students the opportunity to actively apply sociological frameworks to the social worlds around them, explore sociological concepts through alternative mediums, and to share and have fun as a collaborative learning community.
My teaching has been recognized for its innovation and excellence, earning the WWU university wide Peter J. Elich Excellence in Teaching Award in 2025 and the WWU Associated Students Advisor of the Year Award in 2024.
